EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “We Are Grounders, Part 2” (Season Finale)

Ok, let’s get the gonzo journalist crap out of the way first: I have just finished reviewing two concurrent series. This one, and “Cosmos II: Armed and Fabulous.” Cosmos, obviously, I was disappointed by. This show I rather surprisingly enjoyed, though I wouldn’t care if it got cancelled tomorrow, or six weeks ago. Enjoyed, not loved.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “The Calm” (Episode 11)

Kevin Long's picture

Despite this show consistently improving, I find I’m never in the mood to review it. I don’t know why that is. Anyway, here we go:

ON THE ARK

It’s been several days since The Exodus Ship left, crippling the station. The power finally comes back on. Kane finds himself all alone. He wanders around, and finds some other survivors. They rescue the remaining crew in the control room, and then Kane crawls through a dangerous Jeffries tube to rescue some other survivors who ‘hunkered down and got lucky’ in the service bays. Among them is Clark’s mom.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “I Am Become Death” (Episode 10)

Kevin Long's picture

Last week, as you’ll recall, the Space Family Robinson blundered into a war with the Grounders, while there was a failed coup attempt and a successful mutiny on The Ark. A dropship with Clarke’s mom aboard managed to cripple the space station while launching, and then crashed somewhere just over the horizon from the 100’s camp.

Actually, it’s more like “The 90” at this point.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “Unity Day” (Episode 9)

First, the big news: “The 100” has been picked up for another season!

I have to admit I didn’t see that coming. The ratings haven’t been terrible, but they’re certainly lackluster.  Also, it turns out I was right: the first season WAS a 13-episode deal, which is common for midseason replacements. The second season deal is unclear, but it’s probably a more standard 22 episoe season. That’s  13 with an option to pick up the ‘back 9’ episodes if the ratings are good enough to justify it.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “Day Trip” (Episode 8)

I’ve got oddly little to ramble about this week, apart from one thing that’s been nagging me since day one: if you look closely at the tracking shots of the Ark, you’ll notice a couple space shuttles docked to it. I keep meaning to mention it, but I always forget.

Oh, quick side-note: for those of you who only know me from my reviews of this show, I just published my fourth book, “The Bones of an Angel.” Check it out here http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/433927 or on Amazon. It’s only $1.99.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “Contents Under Pressure” (Episode 7)

Kevin Long's picture

I’m beginning to think there’s something wrong with me. I love to read, I love to write, I love to watch TV, I’ve got a gig where I get to do all three, and yet I’m never ACTUALLY in the mood to do it. This is like the 5th consecutive review that I haven’t been able to get jazzed about. One could assume it’s the comparatively low quality of the shows themselves, and while that’s probably a part of it, it’s never stopped me before (“Oh, God, not ANOTHER episode of ‘Generator Rex’”).

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “His Sister’s Keeper” (Episode 6)

Ok, while we’re waiting to get to the review portion of this show, let’s talk about ratings.

This show has no buzz. No one’s excited about it. No one’s saying, “Oh my gosh, could you believe Montana and Dakota would do that to Carolina on their wedding day?” No one’s looking forward to it. Chatting about online as I do, there’s just no buzz.

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “Twilight’s Last Gleaming” (Episode 5)

Hey, everyone. Sorry this is late, but I literally forgot what day of the week it was. Had 4 doctor’s appointments this week alone, so my concentration is off. Anyway, rather than my normal gonzo meanderings let’s just jump into it:

EPISODE REVIEW: The 100: “Murphy’s Law” (Episode 4)

Kevin Long's picture

Despite the gratuitous gore, last week’s episode was a big stride forward for this show, filling in backstory and giving us a focus and some reasonably complex characterization. It also saw a drop of nearly 400,000 viewers from the week before. And we’re down about 800,000 from the premier. This has nothing to do with storytelling (Which is improving) but simply whether or not people are watching. Which dictates whether or not the show will get a second season.
