Worthwhile Webcomics: El Goonish Shive, by Dan Shive

Here's a webcomic about a bunch of high school kids and the strange, often magical things that happen to them. They have little regard for the laws of physics, but at least they've come up with a workable definition of cartoon "hammer space."

Worthwhile Webcomics: Galaxion, by Tara Tallan

A very well-drawn comic strip I have recently found, is Galaxion, by Tara Tallan. It has a vaguely anime-ish look to it, and features several strong female characters in the lead roles. Since I've only just begun reading the seven-year-long archive, I'm going to quote from the comic's "Story So Far" FAQ for a synopsis...

Worthwhile Webcomics: Dawn of Time, by Michael Stearns

Here's a cute little comic about a plucky cave girl, her pet triceratops, and some eccentric, time-travelling Victorians.

Clearly, check your sense of reality at the door.

Worthwhile Webcomics: Second Empire, by "Mechmaster"

A friend of ours pointed this comic out to my husband a few days ago, and ever since then he's been holed up in the computer room, avidly absorbing this CGI graphic novel about a rogue Dalek general who incites a civil war on Skaro.

There are also animated versions of the comic strips up on YouTube, and I can honestly say that the artwork is, at times, quite stunning. Some of the scenes look more like model work than amateur computer graphics animations, the way the light and shadow and reflections play on the surfaces of the Daleks.

Worthwhile Webcomics: xkcd, by Randall Munroe

A webcomic I've heard lots about, and which has been frequently referenced by my friends, is xkcd, which is neither an acronym nor a pronouncable word, just a string of random meaningless letters, unless you like Scrabble, and then they're some of those high-score letters you hate to get because they're hard to get rid of.

That kind of sums up my impression of xkcd, the comic strip.

Once you start hitting the "random comic" button on the strip, you can get stuck there all day...

Worthwhile Webcomics--Melonpool, by Steve Loop

My attention was recently brought to a webcomic that's been running for quite a number of years now. The Adventures of Mayberry Melonpool started in April of 1996 and initially ran seven days a week, but seems to have parked itself sometime in 2012.
