After 36 years a group of researchers have concluded that the Viking probes in the mid-70's found evidence of life on Mars. NASA at the time reported that no life was found helping America to decide that a Manned flight there would be a wast of money and time.

not really new

There were researchers claiming that Viking found something interesting, possibly metabolic life, back in the late 1970s.

Not buying it

I've heard this on and off for decades, and I've never seen any proof. The general consensus is they found nothing, however there has been the argument that the lander itself contaminated the landing site, which may have rendered the results wonky. This is possible. It's also worth noting the biological experiments were VERY primitive, and pretty much consisted of pouring one kind of chemical on some soil, and watching the results. Getting anything out of that was a hail mary pass.

I would point out that there have been five landers in the years since, and none have found anything. Five negatives and one "probably not" equals six negatives.
