The Passing of Lions

When I heard about Mr. Bradbury's passing, it got me to wondering who are the modern authors who will be taking the mantle from the shoulders of all these great SF writers who have been shuffling off the mortal coil in recent years? I'm not that familiar with the modern genre, so I'd appreciate learning who you guys feel are the heirs of the greats from the 50's and 60's?

Mamma the genre and society has changed to the point that I do not believe there are any authors that will give us the same sense of wonder that the classic authors did. Bradbury was such a literary writer that I have not found anyone to match that is publishing today.

Quote

My favorite quote from Ray Bradbury is one I cannot quote directly. One time during the Apollo missions, he was asked if he supported space exploration and why. He said he did because space exploration was a very romantic idea.

Ultimately, unless someone finds a very profitable reason to explore space, the romantic reason for space travel remains the best reason there is for human space exploration.

That's what I was worried about, Neo. I can't think of any "big name" SF author who has the same sort of recognition as this second generation of writers (the Founding Fathers being Verne and Wells and Burroughs etc.)

Part of it is because SF as a genre has faded and morphed and so many people have jumped into it, but I must confess I'm not really as avidly a fan as I used to be; I guess the guys who are writing the SF teleplays are the next generation.
