REALSPACE: Congress wants answers from NASA on 2011 budget

The House Science and Technology Committee Has demanded that NASA turn over all documents, e-mails, charts etc used in planning the 2011 budget request. This move came as House lawmakers have become frustrated over a lack of documentation justifying the new manned spaceflight plan.

Now if I was a betting man (and I am) I would put money on the reason there is no documentation is because there is no real plan. Over the last few months it has become apparent that the Obama Administration is very good at broad outlines but unable to produce concrete plans for anything. That was the reason the White House had the congress do all the heavy lifting on health care last year and why the Gulf cleanup is in chaos. The country has elected an academic not a leader.

NASA never known for strong self leadership is just requesting a budget that they were told to ask for in a broad outline with no real guidance from the White House on specifics. It would not surprise me if congress discovered that NASA has no goals or time tables other than the vague idea of going to Mars sometime this century.
