Hey, get me: I'm a poet!

I'm still basically on extended leave from the site subject to, y'know, emotional burnout and stuff. However, as is entirely appropriate of whiney little wusses wallowing curled up semi-fetally on the floor, I just got a poem published. Check it:

It's actually the lyrics to a song I wrote some years ago. I submitted it to Aphelion, an amateur SF Original Fiction webzine, and they picked it up. I'm pretty excited, as this is the first thing I've ever gotten published anywhere that wasn't strictly a vanity or blog thing. They actually liked it, and ran it.

No money, of course. Still: I'm artsy. And curled up on the floor, which is the same thing, I guess. Unless you're a heavy drinker, which I'm not. But I am willing to learn...

Oh, pooh! :(

As usual, looks like I'm a day late and a dollar short.

Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

SciFaiku

Congrats, R3.

I recently wrote the world's shortest sci-fi story

That's an entire genre: Scifaiku.

Speaking of poetry...

I recently wrote the world's shortest sci-fi story:

We dream of the stars
Scintillating points of fire
Looking back toward home.

Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

Flower Garden poem

I've only written one decent poem that I take any pride in, and it's more of a novelty thing instead of being serious. Here is is, from back in the 80's college days:

Flower Garden

I look over the silvery tops
Of my personal flower garden.
All in rows of neat arrangement:
A dozen or more.

The buzz and hum of insects
Lazily floating above,
Looking for their nectar:
Food left to nature.

The tops of empty beer cans,
Shining aluminum blooms,
My aromatic garden:
Home to gnats.
