In the world of SCTV, there was this independent cable network located somewhere in the midwest. The show generally followed the day-to-day operations of the little station that couldn't, intersperced with sketch comedy in the form of fake commercials, shows, and movie-parodies. In 1984, during the final season of the show, the eagerly anticipated uncalled-for-and-not-very-good-at-all sequel to Stanley Kubric's seminal-yet-overrated film, "2001: A Space Odyssey" was in production. It was called "2010: The Year We Make Contact," which is just as silly a title for a sequel to such a portentious film. I mean, honestly, it'd be like naming the sequel to Ridley Scott's "Alien" something like "Aliens II: Armed and Fabulous!" or the the sequel to Star Wars something like "Star Wars II: Jim Henson's Koozbane Babies." (Everyone knows that was the third film in the series.) I digress. Anyway, so SCTV station manager/owner Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherety) decided to rush a quickie sequel to 2001 into production to beat 2010 to the punch. What follows is a deliberately awful and miscast parody of 2001, Cat Women of the Moon ( ) and "Queen of Outer Space." The final season of SCTV is tied up in litigation, and has never come out on DVD, nor is it likely to. Here's a really really bad copy of the movie parody portion of the episode from youtube:
