I'm hoping by this point enough time has passed that we can all begin to think rationally about the new Trek reboot flick.

As most of you know, I'm not a trekie myself. I don't hate it, I like aspects of it though I find it overall to be kind of preachy and boring, but what little affinity I have for the series is more than offset by the obsessive and culty behavior of the archetypical fans. I don't mean to be insulting, but you know what I mean. They bug you, too. So it's easy to get fired up with hype - that's what it's for - and simply not notice that "The Phantom Menace" is a bad film, or that "T3: The Rise of the Machines" is pretty lame, or that "Serenity" is a bit of a disappointment, though not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination. I'm hoping that by this point, our heads are a bit clearer, and we can discuss the film's merits or lack thereof more objectively.
