...AND ANOTHER THING WE'RE INTERESTED IN: The Return of Babylon 5

Kevin Long's picture

I've been burned by this at least seven times before (The TNT movies, Legend of the Rangers, Crusade, The Memory of Shadows, Lost Tales, and the abortive reboot from two years back) that I know of, and probably a few more that I don't know about, so I don't honestly believe that Babylon 5 is coming back.

That said, JMS has said that B5 is coming back as a big-screen movie with a $100-200 million budget by the end of 2016.

THINGS WE ARE DEFINITELY INTERESTED IN: "Mad Max Fury Road" (2015)

Kevin Long's picture

It is impossible to overstate my love for "The Road Warrior" (1981). The original Mad Max (1979) is a very solid B-movie made for about a million dollars, Austrailian (About a half million US at the tme). Solid, but not brilliant, it's still a triumph of an inventive storyteller getting around his limitations. In no way did it prepare us for "The Road Warrior," however, which was made for about $1.5 million Australian (About $750,00 US) and remains arguably one of the best action films of all time.

THINGS WE'RE DEFINITELY (INEXPLICABLY) INTERESTED IN: "The Three Musketeers" and to a lesser extent, "Terra Nova"

Ok, so here's the deal: Firstly, I'm gonna' be reviewing the "Terra Nova" series starting with the premier on Monday. I'm not expecting too much of it, of course - the premise seems uncommonly stupid - but as the most expensive SF show since "Kings," it should at least be pretty. OTOH, it's Spielberg, who's shown a profound lack of ability where Television is concerned. Odd, given how good he is with Movies. Anyway: That one's mine.

There's a lot more stuff under the jump, including video clips and one of my rants. Well, not quite a rant. Rant-ish, so click through and check it out.

THINGS WE SHOULD PROBABLY BE MORE INTERESTED IN THAN WE ARE: "Atlas Shrugged, Part 1"

Republibot 3.0's picture

Neorandomizer pointed this out to me this morning:

This is a hugely ambitious project, and I really should be more into it than I am. I suppose it's because I felt the end of the book was rather disappointing, taking three times as long as needed to get to a point that was apparent from a hundred pages in, and a point that was kinda' by definition anticlimactic.

I'm hoping they'll leave the rough sex out of the film.

THINGS WE'RE INTERESTED IN: "Green Lantern"

Wow. 150 million bucks, and they couldn't get someone who could do a better line reading than "Hal. This. Test. Today. Is. Important." Geez, it's Carol Ferris, she's an important character. They couldn't get a chick who could act?

Seriously: GL has always been my favorite DC hero - by a HUGE margin - and I'm overjoyed that he's finally, finally, finally getting some big-screen exposure, but this just looks...I dunno. I'm not really digging it.

THINGS WE'RE (Inexplicably) INTERESTED IN: "GI Joe Renegades"

Republibot 3.0's picture

My mother's love has always been inexplicably tied to kickball, and my own has always been inexplicably tied to GI Joe. Let me emphasize that: Inexplicably. To make it worse, though the comics are by and large pretty good, I'm mostly just drawn to the cartoons, which are by and large mostly pretty bad.

It goes without saying, then, that I was gonna' be interested in this latest iteration of the franchise, but imagine my surprise when it turned out to actually look pretty clever!
