A Great Day For Writers: The Matrix is Ruled Plagiarism! [UPDATED]

Republibot 3.0's picture

[PLEASE NOTE: This story was written in good faith using information that quickly turned out to be unreliable. A full explanation of this is available at the end of the article itself. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we apologize for unwittingly spreading misinformation. We will try to be less trusting and more cynical in the future.]

It's the oldest story in Hollywood: The Writer Gets Screwed. Repeatedly. Badly. And is left without recourse. Occasionally, however, the Writer gets un-Screwed, justice prevails, and there's a big fat payoff. [See the UPDATE/RETRACTION below the story. I'm leaving the story itself up for now so that you can see exactly what it is I'm retracting, and take full responsibility for my idiocy, but I'll probably take the whole thing down in a day or two. Thanks to Neorandomizer for pointing out my error]

The "Terminator: Salvation" You Didn't Get To See

Republibot 3.0's picture

Chud's got a really good article on what went wrong with Terminator: Salvation, and it turns out that most of our speculation is correct:

* It was intended to be a story about Marcus
* John Connor was barely in the movie
* Connor dies, and is replaced by Marcus

The article goes on to give a lot more detail about the original script:

MOVIE REVIEW: "Terminator Salvation" (2009)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I know, I know: the only thing you’re really interested in is whether or not this movie contains the first-ever nude scene for an active republican governor. Well I’m not gonna’ tell you that.

This is a pretty good movie, better than the reviews, but it could have easily been a great movie. It just narrowly misses the mark, which makes it a bit frustrating. It is way the hell better than T3: Rise of the Machines, however.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: “To the Lighthouse” (Season 2, Episode 20)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The series - and possibly the season - enters its endgame phase. Team Connor abandon their very nice rental home and head for a new safehouse location. Sarah splits them up in to two groups - her and John, and Reese and Cameron, neither of whom she trusts anymore.

Meanwhile, John Henry goes all bat-guano and starts hurting Savannah, the daughter of Shirley Manson from Garbage. One of the techs is on hand to shut him down, though.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: “The Last Voyage of the Jimmy Carter, Part 2” (Season 2, Episode 19)

Republibot 3.0's picture

You know, there’s a lot of similarities between this Terminator show and the very-recently-concluded Battlestar Galactica. I‘m not saying they‘re the same basic story only in different venues, but there are a lot of more-than-casual coincidences:

* Both revolve around humanity creating sentient machines that then try to kill us
* Both revolve around machines that look and act just like humans
* Both involve a near-total genocide of the human race that a brave remnant fights to survive.
* Both involve hot chicks as the machines

TV REVIEWS: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: "Today is the Day, Part 1" (Season 2, Episode 18)

Sorry for the delay in getting this review up. Real life intruded last night, and by the time I got done typing up my less-than-inspired review for the less-than-inspired dollhouse, I was just too tired to do anything else. Anyway, just watched the episode on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/62359/terminator-the-sarah-connor-chronicles-t... if you ain't seen it yet) and here we go:

EPISODE REVIEW: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: "Ourselves Alone" (Season 2, Episode 17)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I gotta' tell you, these friday nights are wearing me down. Three shows bing-bing-bing is borderline too much, borderline over-stimulation. Then writing up the post-game show is kind of time consuming and grueling. I mean, I can do it, it's not like having a real job, but it's a lot to hold a play by play of all three of these shows in my feeble brain for the five hours or so it takes to watch 'em and write 'em up. If my writing is suffering as a result, I apologize. It'll get 30% easier in just a couple more weeks.

TV REVIEW: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: "Some Must Watch, While Some Must Sleep" (Season 2, Episode 16)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Welcome to the the Fox Friday Night Death Slot where they dump all their soon-to-be-cancelled shows. Tonights feature: Terminator 2.5 (Cuz, y'see, it takes place in between the 2nd and 3rd movies, on an awkward tangent timeline)

TV REVIEW: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: "Desert Cantos" (Season 2, Episode 15)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Welcome to part one of the Friday Night SF Triple Feature!

Last week, as you'll recall, the lead singer for Garbage blew up a mysterious factory out in the desert while a whole bunch of other stuff went on involving Sarah, John, John's girlfriend Riley, and The Terminator Previously Known As Cromarti (And currently known as "John Henry.") Much of that stuff I didn't understand as I hadn't watched the show for 10 episodes or so, but fortunately most of it was completely irrelevant to this week's episode.
