SONG OF THE WHENEVER-WE-FEEL-LIKE-DOING-ONE: "Space-Age Love Song" from Sym-Bionic Titan (2010)

We haven't done one of these in a while, so I thought I'd showcase a neat little bit from Sym-Bionic Titan last year. I'm not much into the whole "Nostalgia" thing, but this sequence came out of nowhere with no warning whatsoever at the climax of an episode. I was grinning like an idiot for the next couple hours, and when they re-ran the episode on Saturday, I forced the Republispouse to watch it. She, too, was grinning for a couple hours afterwards. Treacle-free nostalgic violence. Nice!

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “A New Beginning” (Episode 20, Series Finale)

Republibot 3.0's picture

...And so it ends, not with a whimper, but with a bang. Granted, this isn’t the end anyone had wanted, but it is at least a solid end to the chapter before Cartoon Network decided to throw the rest of the novel away unread. If you haven’t been following the discussions on our site, the show has been cancelled, despite really strong ratings. The die was apparently cast about a month ago, rather abruptly, mid-week when they yanked it off the Monday Night schedule, and burned off the unaired episodes in the show’s own rerun spot on Saturday Mornings.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “The Metal Foe” (Episode 19)

Republibot 3.0's picture

As we speed towards the end of the season, there are a number of distressing signs about this show’s future. It disappeared from the Friday night schedule for months, then, when it returned amidst no fanfare it was deposited (Dumped?) on Monday Nights. Last week it was pre-empted from the schedule to make room for a Johnny Test repeat; the decision was so abrupt that there apparently wasn’t time to inform the various TV Guides, who ended up mis-reporting what shows were going to air that night as a result.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “A Family Crisis” (Episode 18)

This episode was scheduled to run Tuesday night, but for whatever reason it was pre-empted at the last moment for some other goofball crap. They “Repeated” it today (Saturday), though really it was the first showing.

“We’re going to die because you two can’t stop thinking about a stupid dance!”

Illana can’t stop thinking about a stupid dance. She’s glum and grousing for home. She joins the homecoming committee and quickly sells them on the idea of a science-fiction-themed homecoming which is, in fact, based entirely on the “Harvest Festival” from her homeworld.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “Escape from Galaluna” (Episode 16)

Best. Swordfight. Ever.

No, seriously, take every bit of light saber play from the Star Wars prequels, roll it all up into one fifteen-minute-long fight sequence, multiply it by any random Errol Flynn movie, and you *still* don’t have half the awesome in the swordfight here.

And on top of awesome, it’s cool, too. (Those are separate things when done improperly)

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “Disenfranchised” (Episode 15)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I am amazed at how densely-written the story was tonight. I mean, a *LOT* of stuff happens, both plot and character development-driven, stuff was continually happening, there were a lot of quiet scenes, and an entire song. I figured the episode was almost done, then looked at the clock and we were barely halfway in. And yet none of it felt rushed. It felt like they dehydrated an hour-long story and packed it into this morsel of emotional ADD deliciousness, and it never felt forced.

Ok, We're Just Not Doing So Good With The Reviews It Seems...

Republibot 3.0's picture

I totally spaced on Sym-Bionic Titan last night, and missed the episode. I'll pick it up on Saturday, and I do apologize for the delay. In a larger sense, however, this points out a problem we've been having here at the 'Bot this season: We're simply not being very reliable with our episode reviews.

This is as much my fault as it is anyones. Arguably, it's probably more my fault since I'm the head writer and public face of the website.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “I Am Octus” (Episode 14)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The team is looking at a Jackson Pollack painting, which Illana sees as a warm happy sunrise, and which Lance sees as battle-related carnage. Octus sees it as a painting. When they press him on symbolism, he asks why the red can’t just represent red. They tell him to look deeper, and he discovers that there was an earlier painting the artist covered over. Annoyed, they conclude that he can’t see the emotion in the piece because he’s a robot. This annoys Octus.
