Mama Fisi's picture

I don't care if you think it's not a "real" planet, distant little Pluto is finally getting its day in the sun as New Horizons sends back data which exceeds the hopes of NASA.

LEGO Space: Building The Future

Mama Fisi's picture

It seems that there is no end to the creative uses for the iconic plastic building bricks that are fond memories for most of us in Generation X, and more painful memories for our Baby Boomer parents who ended up stepping barefoot on many of them because we scattered them liberally around the house.

Now both generations can rejoice; Peter Reid and Tim Goddard have collaborated on a book in which they use LEGOs to recreate some of the most notable events in the history of space exploration.

Tuesday Morning Rant: Where Are We Going?

Republibot 4.0's picture

I keep hearing about how we have to engage in the search for new Earthlike worlds because our species is doomed otherwise.  Either the sun is going to go nova, or climate change is going to make our planet uninhabitable, or an asteroid's going to knock us for six, or we're going to kill ourselves with nuclear war or overpopulation or just sheer random stupidity.  So we have to have an escape plan in place, so our magnificent species will not vanish from the universe.

Bollocks.

Smile For Cassini

BeeLine to the Future:The Exploration of Space

Robert Bee's picture

Why has space exploration ground to a virtual halt? The primary reason is the expense, a problem that will not get any better as the countries of the western world, weighed down by budget deficits, find it harder and harder to fund space exploration. The western world is wasting too much money on the welfare state to fund a flight to Mars.
