BREAKING NEWS: Kings is dead, long live the Kings

Republibot 3.0's picture

Geez, what a week I'm having. First JG Ballard dies, and now NBC has pulled Kings from their schedule. They plan on burning off the remaining episodes during the summer doldrums - June and July - probably with the typical lack of fanfare and respect that NBC has treated the show with thus far.

Honestly, I don't know how or why they do this - the show costs $4 an EPISODE! They've blown $44 million on the episodes they've already produced, plus another ten million on the pilot. You'd think they'd want a shot at earning some of that money back.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: “Born To run” (Season 2, Episode 22 - Season Finale)

…And so it all comes down to this: The Season finale, and very likely the series finale as well. We start off where we left off last week, with Sarah in Jail, and John and Cameron on the lam. Shirley Manson from Garbage tells the bald dude to move John Henry, but he points out that they can’t - JH has progressed to such a level that there’s no longer a clear distinction between machine and software. Much like a human brain, you can’t point to a specific location and say “That’s my soul,” rather who and what we are permeates our ‘hardware’ holographically. That’s the point JH has gotten to.

BREAKING NEWS: "Dollhouse" is safe for at least half a season.

Republibot 3.0's picture

Fox ordered 13 episodes of "Dollhouse" up front. This is a fairly standard half-season order, and if the show is successful they'd generally pick up the "Back 9" to bring the season up to a standard 22 episodes. Despite this, however, Fox has been known to screw with shows before - "Firefly" for instance filmed 13 episodes, but only 10 were on the air. It's not uncommon for a show to be performing so badly that the network ditches it before it bleeds any more ratings from the time slot.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: “To the Lighthouse” (Season 2, Episode 20)

The series - and possibly the season - enters its endgame phase. Team Connor abandon their very nice rental home and head for a new safehouse location. Sarah splits them up in to two groups - her and John, and Reese and Cameron, neither of whom she trusts anymore.

Meanwhile, John Henry goes all bat-guano and starts hurting Savannah, the daughter of Shirley Manson from Garbage. One of the techs is on hand to shut him down, though.

TV REVIEWS: Battlestar Galactica: "Daybreak, Part 1" (Season 4, episode 19)

After several months of cooling our heels in Earth Orbit, not doing anything, and after several weeks of randomly moving the scrabble tiles back and forth along the tabletop, but not actually progressing the story, suddenly we get moving again.

This episode was something of a format-breaker, divided somewhat randomly between the present and the past with an extended series of flashbacks.

Wow!

You know, it's easy to forgive massive missteps like last week when they completely knock it out of the park like they did tonight! Seriously.

Echo is programmed to be an ass-kicking backup singer for a Riana-like singer that someone is trying to kill. Sierra, the blonde Japanese girl, is assigned as her backup. They infiltrate the singer's agency separately and with no real difficulties, until it becomes apparent that Rianna *Wants* to die, and is encouraging her stalker/executioner. Said whackjob kidnaps Sierra, and so Echo endangers the singer to rescue the other active, and save the day. This they then do.

Meanwhile, in the Helo plot, Paul the FBI guy gets set up by his Russian Mob informant, and is shot and hospitalized.
