Episode Review: Smallville: "Escape" (Season 9 Episode 15)

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Tonight, Lois and Clark and Ollie and Chloe and Ted and Alice and somebody else who wasn't invited try to get away for a quiet weekend at a bed and breakfast in the bogs and heather in the highlands of Kansas.

Do they succeed? If they did succeed, would there have been an episode?

No, they do not "Escape"

Make the jump. You know you want to....

BREAKING NEWS: "Smallville" picks up season 10!

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Variety is reporting that Smallville has been picked up for season ten.  Although technically the show was 'on the bubble' it is the timeslot's winner with the hard-to-reach 18-49 male demographic.

Personally, I credit Zatanna.

So, it looks like I have a job for another year.

And maybe they'll finally let the poor guy fly.

EPISODE REVIEW: Smallville: "Conspiracy" (Season 9, Episode 14)

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Tonight, a chilling tale of Alien Abduction.  Aliens aren't abducting the citizens of Metropolis, a Metropolitan is abducting aliens and cutting  them into itty bitty pieces.

Clever concept, especially since the abductor is also a reanimated (mad) scientist...  but a clever concept does not necessarily mean a clever outing on a Friday night.

(spoilers below!!!!)

Episode Review: Smallville: "Persuasion" (Season 9, Episode 13)

A pinch of pixie dust and You Can Fly!

Oh, wait. Wrong tale of arrested development. There is pixie dust in this episode, but no flying.  @#$#!!!

All this and a tiny bit of tangentally related commentary on Geoff John's recent promotion...

Spoilers, Ahoy!

EPISODE REVIEW: Smallville: “Warrior” (Season 9, Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our review of “Smallville.” Our regular critic on this beat - Republibot 2.0 - was having “Connectivity Problems” tonight, whatever that means, and asked me to step in for him.

Just in the interests of full disclosure, this was the first episode of “Smallville” I’ve ever seen. R2 informed me, however, that I’d probably like it because it had Zatanna in it:

EPISODE REVIEW: SMALLVILLE: "Absolute Justice" (Season 9, Episode 11)

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Tonight, a grand experiment.  Could Smallville portray comic book superheroes in a way that was faithful to their comic book roots?  Could a visually outlandish character like Hawkman be translated on a small screen budget?  Could Geoff Johns bring the Justice Society to Smallville without making it a laughing stock?  Well,  what are you waiting for?  Make the leap below!

EPISODE REVIEW: SMALLVILLE: Disciple (Season 9, Episode 10)

Green Arrow faces his old archery teacher-- who looks nothing like my old archery teacher.  I mean, the coach was a nice guy, but he didn't say anything about ancient celtic cults or dress up in a leather hoodie.  And he preferred fiberglass arrows to wooden ones.

I digress.  I'm supposed to review the episode, not play remember when I was the Dork Archer...

I am battling against the dying of the laptop battery... do I make it?

More, and spoilerific goodness, after the jump...

TV REVIEW: Smallville: Legion

sysadmin 2.0's picture

According to the schedule, they are re-running this episode opposite Dollhouse and Caprica over on the WB CW.  It's notable for a couple of reasons:

  1. It's a really good episode
  2. It's written by Geoff Johns, who wrote the Smallville "Movie" Total Justice that is airing next week.

So I'm rerunning the review I wrote of it last year.  Don't sweat it, I'll also have Batman and a new Smallville review up tonight as well.

Okay. This is going to be a quick one. Impressive. Geoff Johns, noted comic writer, wrote this episode of Smallville and in doing so, he managed to address Smallville's noted departure from the Superman mythos, throw easter eggs and metacommentary in while maintaining and extending the Smallville universe. RECAP (minor spoilers)

No Smallville Tonight- Haiti Telethon trumps Clark Kent

sysadmin 2.0's picture

The George Clooney helmed Haiti Telethon is taking over most normal programming this evening, but we have a treat- a new Smallville trailer for the Justice Society of America movie-ish thing that they will be broadcasting on Feb 5th.

Do find a good Haitian charity to donate to, or donate to the Red Cross' relief efforts here. Don't do it 'cause Clooney says that you should... do it because it is the right thing to do.

Oh yeah. Nifty Easter Egg-y trailer after the jump!

TEASER: Smallville:Total Justice

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Below the jump, we have the teaser for the Total Justice Smallville movie that has now been moved to the beginning of November Sweeps.

This is becoming even more interesting as it approaches: It started as one episode, got expanded to two, made into a TV movie and now moved from January to February. This sort of move indicates that the CW execs are very excited about this Smallville project and might indicate some sort of new life for this series. If it does well, I'd anticipate an early renewal announcement and/or a continuation or spinoff series.
