When there's disputes between the director and the composer, the traditional way to resolve it all the way back to the '30s is to use the "Newman Method," named after Thomas Newman, who invented the 'Follow the Clock' method of scoring for film. Basically, the director and the composer role up the scores, clear off the table, and arm wrestle. So you've got to stay in shape. Fortunately for me, Tim Burton is pretty wimpy, so I always win. On the other hand, I can't hold a candle to John Williams. One time he challenged Spielberg *AND* two stage hands, and he kicked all their asses.
