R2's Day- JL8

I know we have a virtual army of cartoonists here in our community (and in this, I include myself- though I've not seriously cartooned in a few years)... but sometimes you see something that both humbles and inspires you.

Yale Stewart's JL8 is a great comic.  It has humor and heart in just about the right proportions.  He's taken DC superheroes and put them all in third grade, while keeping them pretty much in character.  In fact, he may have a better grip on the characters than DC does currently.

OPINION: Why Marvel Knocked Avengers Out of the Park and Why Warner Bros. Will Ruin Justice League

Wil Avitt's picture

The Avengers is currently the third highest grossing film of all time behind Gone With the Wind at #1 and Avatar at #2. It should also be noted that Avatar's and Gone's numbers include DVD and television revenue (and in Gone's case that includes more than 70 years of revenue), so a good case can be made for Avengers being the most successful film of all time. Of course, it didn't take too much longer after Avengers hit the ONE BILLION dollar mark that Warner Bros. started talking about resurrecting the Justice League movie that was aborted back in 2007 or 2008. But why was Avengers so successful and can Warners possibly replicate this success?

DVD MOVIE REVIEW: Justice League: Doom

Wil Avitt's picture

Last year fans of comic books and cartoons based on comic books lost a great storyteller far too early with the untimely death of Dwayne McDuffie. This week, we have been given a gift: Justice League: Doom, Dwayne's last work.

EPISODE REVIEW: Batman: The Brave and the Bold: "Darkseid Descending!"

sysadmin 2.0's picture

This week, the Justice League gets a reboot just in time to face Darkseid.  Oddly enough, this also seems to be the plot for next week's Smallville.

Different League, different rules, right?

Handy Dandy Logline reads: "Tess kidnaps the Green Arrow and leaves him in the hands of Amanda Waller, but he escapes with his secret identity intact. Oliver, Clark and Chloe return to the scene to investigate the kidnapping and find John Jones doing the same. Later, Waller threatens Chloe's life to get information on the Justice League."

Wow. That's a lot of logline. Thank you for writing my recap for me. Oh, wait… there's more?

Jump, because Clark still isn't flying.

This week, the Teen Titans Sidekicks form and take on the Serpent's Head, Ra's Al Ghul. Was this version of the Titans as good as the old Anime series?

Well, yes.

I liked it. R3 is probably wondering where Beast Boy and Starfire are, though.

DVD MOVIE REVIEW: “Justice League: New Frontier” (2008)

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is two thirds of a really good movie, which makes it especially frustrating when it all falls apart at the end. The film is set solidly in the 1950s, beginning the day (7/27/1953) and ends with a badly-animated president Kennedy giving a speech in July of ’61. The premise is that superheroes have gone out of fashion in the days since WW2, with most having retired. Those who remain are strongly questioning why they do it, since the lines between ‘good’ and ‘evil’ have gotten spectacularly muddy. (Huh?
