“ATTACK OF THE KILLER APP”

It’s recycling day in New New York until Mom comes up with the “eyePhone,” a heads-up display video phone implanted painfully in the eye. Suddenly everyone is twittering (I don’t know what that means, and we even do it here on the site, yet I still don’t know what it means. I’m old.), and Bender and Fry are trying to get to a million followers first. Whomever loses has to swim in a hot tub full of filth. Mom, meanwhile, has set up the eyePhone system to launch a brain virus when someone hits a million “Twits,” and then all of them will do her bidding.

Futurama is back, baby! Yeah! Returned from the dead a second time! Back and better than ever! Well, tawdrier than ever, anyway. That’s something, right? But who cares, it’s back! Back! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Yeah!

I completely forgot about it.

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST: "Futurama II" at the 1964 World's Fair

Republibot 3.0's picture

I know, I know, you're all sick of the boring Futurama films, but this one is much better:

25 years after the first NY World's Fair, the festivities returned to the city. GM decided to make a sequel to the improbably popular "Futurama" ride, but this one was a vast improvement. Rather than continuing to obsess over individualized speed limits for particular lanes on the highway, this one goes straight for the good stuff: Wild eyed empty promises of how cool the future will be!

BREAKING NEWS: Looks Like Futurama Will Continue To Sound Like Futurama

Republibot 3.0's picture

A while back we reported the story about how the eternally cheap and unattractive FOX suits were attempting to keep the costs on the Futurama revival down by re-casting all the voice actors with soundalikes. The fact that they were holding open auditions at Comicon struck us as a little bit odd, but, hey, if they made any kind of sense at all they wouldn't be FOX, now would they? In any event, it turns out this was all a weird ploy to shame the network in to renegotiating the actor's contracts with some pay raises. Details here.

BREAKING NEWS: Futurama Returns Without Original Voice Cast

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is bad: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006123.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=...
The bottom line is that 20th Century Fox is looking at once again resurrecting Futurama as a series, and giving them a two-season deal, but with built-in raises the original voice cast is now too expensive for them to use, and unless they're willing to slash their previous salaries, they've already been effectively fired.

DVD MOVIE REVIEW: “Futurama; The Beast With A Billion Backs.” (2008)

Republibot 3.0's picture

My review takes the form of an actual IM Transcript from the day after I saw it. The names have been changed to protect the guilty. Spoilers abound because no one ever watches the stuff I review anyway, and on a turd like this, I couldn’t give less of a damn if I tried.
Me says:
I did not like the new Futurama "Movie" (The 2nd one)
You says:
how bad was it?
Me says:
Just not funny. Very scattershot and disjointed, compared to the previous one, which was brilliant. Kinda' repulsive, too.
You says:
So, the concept out of steam, or just a poorly executed outing?
Me says:
