COMICS THAT NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT #4: “Serenity: Those Left Behind” (2005)

“Firefly” was the best completely new SF show of the 21st century. Not a reboot, not a re-imagining, not a fantasy, and not clearly cribbing from any other show on TV. Imagine! A show that isn’t just like every other show, whoda’thunk it? But because it was brilliant and untested, the television gods were angered, and prophesied that it should be consigned to the outer darkness of the FOX network, amidst wailing and gnashing of teeth, and occasional pitchforkings from network suits with nothing better to do.

Firefly vs. xkcd: “The Race”

Happy June, everyone.

Recently the web comic xkcd did a small, but pretty funny Firefly-based arc. The thing I liked about it (Aside from it actually being funny) was that they actually kind of caught the characters’ voices from the show and the overall feel of the space cowboy patois they spoke with in the show. It’ll take you less than five minutes to read it, and it’s well worth your time.

(Belated)MOVIE REVIEWS: “Serenity” (2005)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Just re-watched this movie and I just can’t help being disappointed by it. I realize that’s heresy since I loved the series beyond any limit of what is considered socially acceptable, but there you are.

Having pondered it a bit for a while now, I think there's no single cause, but probably a lot of tiny one that by themselves would be unnoticeable:
* The soundtrack was done by someone different from the TV show, and made use of no themes from the show, excepting a 15 second audio cameo in the very end of the credit roll. The STYLE of the music is different, too.
