FAN FILM FRIDAY: Star Wars Detours

Republibot 4.0's picture

Okay, this prrrrrobably doesn't count as a fan film, because it's produced by Lucasfilm Ltd.  And since it's been cancelled (or more optimistically, "shelved until further notice") it's probably a waste of everyone's time to tease you with it.  But I giggled a lot when I watched the trailer, and since my job here is to amuse you folks, here's "Star Wars: Detours" from the guys behind the Robot Chicken parodies.  Ah, what might have been...

FAN FILM FRIDAY:Blah Blah Blah Daleks

This is a weird little animated Doctor Who parody, and I say weird because the animators chose to leave a few crucial bits out, like the upper arms of the characters, and...well, their mouths.  That does make it easier to animate, but I'm not sure it wins any points for style.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Gallifrey Trock

Republibot 4.0's picture

There's a whole genre of music, called trock, devoted to songs inspired by Doctor Who.

This one gets points for originality, if not for slick production values.  Or the quality of his voice.  (For my money, Weird Al Yankovic did the definitive parody of this song...)

Fan Film Friday: Thunderbirds 2010

A neatly done little fan film.  The effects shots are very good (except where they try to put CGI Character into them.)  This was done by the same fellow, Chris Thompson, who did the UFO fan film from a few weeks ago.  This must have been him 4 years younger.

The acting leaves something to be desired, but otherwise, it's top notch!

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Red Dwarf Animated: Time Hole

Republibot 4.0's picture

The British seem to have a knack for making science fiction comedies, and one of the best is Red Dwarf, by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor.  Running sporadically from its debut in 1988, the series spawned or inspired a number of spin-off books, magazines,  and other merchandise, as well as an aborted American iteration.  And, apparently, this animated short.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Space Hospital

Republibot 4.0's picture

I don't know whether or not this was a real show.  It looks cheesy enough to be a fan-made endeavor.  In any event, it's a ripoff of James White's Sector General series, which sort of qualifies it as a fan film.  And since it's late and I'm tired and I can't find any good Gilligan's Island episodes to put up tonight, here ya go.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Ranger

Republibot 4.0's picture

Here is a nicely done film of the story of Beren and Luthien, from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion."  The tale is nicely adapted and thought-provoking. The acting, costumes, and cinematography are all pretty good, almost professional quality.  Most of the special effects are well made, especially the cloak of invisibility, but the dragon looks like an overgrown wind-up toy.  I would also have preferred a sword with a little more heft to its blade.
