FAN FILM FRIDAY: Interview with Martin Gamal of VFX SR.

Church's picture

A few weeks back, a showreel (a video artist's portfolio) was posted to a restricted channel on youtube. Somehow it got out and quickly went viral. It's quite a bit longer than the typical showreel, so feel free to jump around:

I managed to get hold of the man behind it, Martin Gamal. Join us after the jump.

Church's picture

If you follow fan films at all, you probably recognize the name NEO f/x. It graces the credits of many of the Star Trek fan productions. Michael Struck heads NEO f/x and also wrote (along with Jack Trevino) the script for Needs of the Many, which we reviewed a couple weeks ago.

Join us after the Jump for an interview with Michael.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "Lazy Teenage Superheroes"

Church's picture

Green Lantern and X-Men: First Class are currently in theaters, but if you only see one superhero movie today, it should be Lazy Teenage Superheroes, an original twelve minute short about a trio of superpowered slackers and their avereage joe roommate. Have a look at the trailer. (Some NSFW languge ahead.)

Intrigued? The full thing is after the jump.

FAN FILM FRIDAY:Doctor Who Anime

Church's picture

About a week ago a fan-made anime of Doctor Who made quite a splash, winning (mostly) praise across the science fiction interwebs.

After a few days it was taken down by the creator. It's not clear why, although there are no shortage of theories. Join me after the jump for a walkthrough of this remarkable short film.

If you're a science fiction fan on the internet, odds are you've come across some of the many videos by OneMinuteGalactica. If you're merely on the internet, odds are you've come across this one.

Join me after the jump for an interview with the increasingly inaccurately named OneMinuteGalactica.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "Jr. Star Trek"

Church's picture

Last week I featured the earliest fan film I had come across. Naturally, it took only a few hours for our own SheldonCooper to point out that there was a still earlier one, Jr. Star Trek.

From the youtube description: Back in 1969 ten-year-old Peter ("Stoney") Emshwiller created his own version of a Star Trek episode using his dad's 16mm camera. The, um, fabulous special effects were created by scratching on the film with a knife and coloring each frame with magic markers. The movie won WNET's "Young People's Filmmaking Contest," was shown on national television, and, all these years later, still is a favorite at Star Trek Conventions.

Join us after the jump to see this award-winning film.
