MOVIE REVIEW: "The Day After Tomorrow" (2004)

A schoolteacher buddy of mine recently told me that one of the other teachers in his school was going to show this flick to her science class. I said "That's ridiculous, there's nothing but bad science in this movie, even Environmentalists complain about how awful it is!" He said she didn't care, and asked me to put together a list of reasons why it was inappropriate so he could use it on the administration. That required me re-watching the movie, which I really didn't want to do, but I took the hit. "For Science!"

Daniel Roe on Windfarms and Energy Costs

Republibot 3.0's picture

My fingers are still killing me from yesterday's "War of the Gods" review, so I'm a-gonna' just throw up this piece from Mr. Daniel Roe.

In this very poorly filmed piece, Mr. Roe goes on about how Windfarms are a government subsidy, and far from being a viable alternative source of energy.

BOOK REVIEW: “The Wind From Nowhere” by JG Ballard (1962)

It occurred to me while reading this book that J.G. Ballard really is the high-lord grand poobah of Science Fiction disaster novels. There’s at least five of them I can think of off the top of my head that all follow a similar plot: Nature goes screwy, and everyone dies, or is very likely to die in the near future. One would think that he’d have been gobbled up as a new age saint by the environmentalists as a result, but he hasn’t. Why?

Wait, now the planet is too cold? Make up your minds, aready!

So the economy is in the crapper, gas prices are super-high, the space program is being shut down for half a decade, and we've got an unpopular one-term democratic president who ran a brilliant campaign, but is a total writeoff in office. Sound familiar? (Cough-Cough: Jimmy Carter).

As if you needed any more proof that the present is essentially a dance remix of 1978, scientists are now beginning to conclude that Global Warming is a paper tiger, and what we really need to worry about is...

Dun-dun-DUNNNNNNN

...Global Cooling!

Nature Needs Us More Than We Need It

This is a new idea I've been toying with, so bear with me, please try to be objective, and sound off in the comments as to whether I'm on to something, or completely off my nut, or if there's some intermediate position between the two.

Selfrighteous Hippies: Helping the Rich Get Richer by Killing People In Africa (And Elsewhere)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I’m not ordinarily a ‘cause’ oriented kind of guy. It is my opinion that – at least in American life – mass-media-driven causes are basically institutionalized attempts to make a lot of money by playing off the gullibility and liberal white guilt of our fellow citizens. I’ve always been skeptical, but these kinds of things, even when they’re done with the best of intentions, always seem to go wrong. Remember all that grain that USA for Africa purchased for starving Ethiopians when we were teenagers?
