Worthwhile Webcomics: Second Empire, by "Mechmaster"

Mama Fisi's picture

A friend of ours pointed this comic out to my husband a few days ago, and ever since then he's been holed up in the computer room, avidly absorbing this CGI graphic novel about a rogue Dalek general who incites a civil war on Skaro.

There are also animated versions of the comic strips up on YouTube, and I can honestly say that the artwork is, at times, quite stunning. Some of the scenes look more like model work than amateur computer graphics animations, the way the light and shadow and reflections play on the surfaces of the Daleks.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Mighty Morphin Dalek Rangers

Continuing our tribute to the venerable BBC TV series "Doctor Who," we have this cute little mash-up. It's not the only clip to notice the uncanny resemblance of the multi-colored Daleks to characters from an earlier series, but it's probably got the best editing of the lot--it almost looks like the Beeb did it intentionally.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Rowan Atkinson As Doctor Who

Republibot 4.0's picture

Okay, so this isn't technically a "fan" film--it's a slickly produced BBC-TV parody film starring Rowan Atkinson, Jonathan Pryce, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley, Julia Salwaha, and Richard E. Grant, made for Comic Relief  back in 1999.

It's actually sort of non-canon canon.  The man who wrote it, Stephen Moffat, eventually went on to become head writer for the Doctor Who series proper.

Behold--"The Curse of the Fatal Death."

Dr. Who At The Opera

I had one of my random thoughts the other day.

The BBC is doing a Doctor Who retrospective, in celebration of that show's fifty years on television.  That's all well and good.

But I got to thinking about what it might be like if the Doctor had been played by Groucho Marx, with Chico and Harpo as his Companions, and them travelling around the universe in a stateroom that was bigger on the inside than the outside, popping up in unexpected places and causing all sorts of silliness and havoc.

So Ya Wanna Be A Doctor, Eh?

This is Hearty White, who has occasionally commented on our site under the name "Ovadiah David." He's auditioning for the part of "The Doctor" for whenever Matt Smith leaves the show. There's really nothing more anyone needs to know apart from that. Just let his work speak for itself.

THE STALLING-FOR-TIME SUNDAY AFTERNOON DOCTOR WHO OPEN THREAD!

Republibot 3.0's picture

Owing to inclement weather and rolling blackouts (The 21st Century! Who knew?), R2 hasn't been able to get a review of this week's Dr. Who up and running yet. He says he'll get to it just ASAP, but for the time being, he asked me to start an Open Thread to discuss the two-parter.

So what did you fine folks think? Sound off below!
