RANDOM WANKERY: Assuming Paul McGann's Doctor had been picked up for a series, what would it have affected in the present?

Republibot 3.0's picture

So last night, I had a dream that the current Who revival in the UK (2005-present) was ongoing, and exactly the same as it is in the real world (3 doctors, 81 episodes, five companions, etc), but that the 1996 American attempt to revive the franchise on the Fox network in 1996 had been a success. In my dream, the Eighth* Doctor (Paul McGann) did 110 episodes over 5 seasons. Despite this, however, the series had been all-but-forgotten by everyone but me, and when I talked about it, the only thing people remembered was the crappy TV movie.

DVD MOVIE REVIEW: Doctor Who: The Movie (Fox, 1996)

Wil Avitt's picture

As I've stated elsewhere on this site, I'm not a rabid Doctor Who fan, but I am a fan. I was only nine-years-old when the show's original run ended, and I wasn't a fan of British stuff when I was a kid (everyone talked funny, after all). When I was 25 the show was relaunched and, having long ago given up my prejudice of how Brits talk (though they do still talk funny), I gave the show a chance. I was immediately hooked and watched the show every chance I got. Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor (there have been NINE?!) was phenomenal, and Rose was hot.

EPISODE REVIEW: Eureka: "This One Time In Space Camp" (Season 4, Episode 18)

Anna's picture

It is six weeks before Astraeus takes off for Titan and the trip’s aspiring crew members need to pass one more hurdle before the final list is done. Senator Wen heads a panel that interviews each aspirant separately, asking a variation of the question “What makes you want to go to Titan so bad that you are willing to let us use a brain interface that lets us watch your deepest memories?”

EPISODE REVIEW: Eureka: "Clash of the Titans" (Season 4, Episode 17)

Anna's picture

So we are four episodes out to the end of Season 4 (4.5?) and the Astraeus mission is getting close to crunch time. But not without a minor hitch or two. The return of Tiny from her Titan prep mission and her rapid demise soon after she reaches Earth starts a series of investigations that culminate in a massive red cloud of doom hovering over the town and threatening to kill everyone. But even worse, a government bureaucrat descends on Eureka to assess the "intimate alliance" of two of Eureka's top personnel. Oh, noes!

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 8” (Episode 8, Series Finale)

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is gonna’ be a kind of threadbare review because my carpal tunnel is absolutely killing me. I apologize in advance, but since no one much seems to care about this show, and since the series was cancelled before the first episode hit the air, and since it ends with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved, I doubt anyone will mind.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 7” (Episode 7)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I know, I know: with my wildly non-sequential reviews of this show, you were assuming I wouldn’t get to this one until September, and I’d do the series finale before I got to it, and maybe a retrospective, too. Well - tah-dah - wrong. I’m all about surprises. And Fried Foods. And Sarcasm. Really, though, if I’m honest, I’m more about Fried Foods than the other two things. Ok, so, fine, I’m not all about surprises. That’s kinda’ surprising in and of itself, isn’t it? Probably not. You don’t actually know me all that well. Ah well. Screw it, on to the review portion of this review:

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 4” (Episode 4)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Narrative sequence? Never heard of it!

I was reviewing this already-dead show, then missed three episodes, caught up with one of ‘em yesterday, watched the current one last night, and I watched another one I missed today.

Inconvenient and frustrating, I know, but it’s not like you fine folks are paying for this.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 6” (Episode 6)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Our entirely sporadic coverage of this series continues…sporadically!

Now, I’m still a couple episodes behind in catching up with this thing, and I briefly toyed with the idea of not reviewing tonight’s ep until I was caught up, but ultimately I rejected that since the show is already dead, will not resolve its storyline, and isn’t very good to begin with. It was just too much effort for too little payoff, all things considered. So our coverage continues, but, I apologize, the eps are gonna’ be somewhat out of sequence.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 3” (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Today (Saturday) we resume our somewhat infrequent coverage of the already-cancelled BBC series “Outcasts.” For those of you late to the party, the show takes place in the not-too-distant future (40 or 50 years) on a planet with the unfortunate name of “Carpathia” that looks and feels a lot like South Africa, upon which the last remnants of humanity attempt to build a new life for themselves after having fled a war that wiped out earth.

If Defying Gravity Hadn't Been Cancelled, What Would Have Happened Next?

Republibot 3.0's picture

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON 11/18/09

As many of you know, we here at Republibot have been pretty steadfast in our coverage of the sadly departed “Defying Gravity” series, which was - alas - dead before it ever even hit the air. A lot of you have emailed or posted in comments, wondering what would have happened next in the story, or asking how to contact the producers, so you can ask ‘em.

Well, now we know!
