FAN FILM FRIDAY: "Crusade Wars"

Republibot 3.0's picture

As I said last week, I've long lamented the lack of B5 fanfilms. Technically speaking, this isn't one, it's a Crusade fanfilm, oddly enough. This is a neat little piece that didn't get nearly the credit or attention it deserved, and there's something charming about it being done entirely in oldschool stop motion.

A couple of the people connected with last week's "Babylon Park" series went off on their own and made this one, hence my 'vaguely related not-quite spinoff' comment last Friday.

BOOK REVIEW: “Crusade: Behind the Scenes” by Joe Nazzaro (2010)

I’m a pretty obsessive compulsive guy, and Babylon 5 is my favorite show in the history of ever. I’m easily as obsessive over the show - though I like to think I’m a bit more enlightened about it - as diehard Trekies are about their shows. It’s sad, really.

TV MOVIE CAPSULE REVIEWS:Babylon 5:”Legend of the Rangers” (2002), “River of Souls” (1998) and “A Call to Arms” (1999)

Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers: To Live and Die in Starlight (2002) – yet another TV Movie, intended as a pilot for yet another B5 spinoff. This one was stillborn, but watching it again for the first time in 5 years or so, I rather liked it. Not great, but I think maybe it had more potential than the quickly-cancelled Crusade. As with nearly all pilots, it’s really exposition-heavy. The acting is all rather stiff, and it’s a crying shame seeing the late Andreas Katsulas in his last-ever appearance as G’kar without him having someone solid to play off of.

So what was up with the crazy episode order in “Crusade” anyway?

sysadmin 2.0's picture

As you know, the Crusade episodes were broadcast out of order, hampered by the fact that some planned 'inbetween' episodes were never filmed, and that whole damn uniform thing confounding stuff.

This is made even worse by JMS's dvd collection, which shows them in an order JMS said was his intention, but appears to be little-better than random, and ignore the uniform changes, and dubbing a couple extra lines of dialog.

My own order for the eps, based on internal clues and external logic placed 'em in this order:

0- "A Call To Arms" (The movie)
