EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Promises, Promises” (Episode 19)

An above-average Friday night on Cartoon Network comes to a close, with yet another episode featuring a significant flashback, and one that answers many a lingering question. It’s a darn good episode from start to finish, even if it isn’t up to the giddy final moments of tonight’s Sym-Bionic Titan episode.

Seriously: Best use of Space Age Love Song, ever.

But as that’s not in this episode, let’s get on to the recap.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “Lessons In Love” (Episode 10)

You know, curiously, whenever I’ve hear “Space Age Love Song” by A Flock of Seagulls, I’ve always thought of a happy cheerleader in love with a machine dancing down the street at night while a giant alien and a huge mighty fighty robot duke it out in the background. If you’re at all like me - and face it, you really are, far moreso than you’re willing to admit - then you’ve had that same odd association. And now, thanks to the miracle that is Sym-Bionic Titan, my friends, all our dreams can be realized.

Seriously: Best use of Space Age Love Song, ever.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “Nor Iron Bars A Cage” (Episode 17)

Wow! Remember a couple weeks ago when I only grudgingly agreed to continue reviewing this show, saying that I’d gotten bored with it, and my kids had aged out of it? I completely take all that back. After last week and this new one tonight, I’m completely on board again.

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “The Rooks” (Episode 5)

Say, that was actually pretty good, wasn’t it? I admit I wasn’t terribly jazzed about tonight’s ep. “Oh boy, stupid frat boys doing stupid frat boy things…spooooooooky.” Big frackin’ deal. But it actually ended up probably being the best episode of the season.

EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Plague” (Episode 18)

Republibot 3.0's picture

A plague has put the entire world to sleep in less than 10 hours. The only people aware are evos, White Knight, Doc Holiday, and Rex. Holiday is keeping herself awake with electric shocks, Rex is running around putting out fires (Literally) and White Knight is complaining. If they don’t cure people relatively soon, people will start dying of thirst. Holiday eventually passes out.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “Tashy 497” (Episode 9)

The evil general dude goes to the planet Mutrad to complain about how little bang he’s getting for his alien monster buck. The leader of the monster ship gives him the most horrifying creature on the planet, a cute little blue deal that looks a lot like Oswald the Octopus.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “The Forge of Creation” (Episode 16)

Ok, now *this* one I didn’t see coming. I know I’ve complained about how the show/franchise isn’t really grabbing me anymore, not through any fault of their own, but simply because my kids have aged out of it, and I’ve aged out of it vicariously through them (As openly pathetic as that is), but tonight was a pretty impressive game changer, and it went a long way towards renewing everyone’s interest in the show.

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Buffer” (Episode 4)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Back in “The Prisoner” there was a hokey made-up, nonsensical game in The Village called “Kosho.” It was supposed to represent all the martial arts at once - karate, boxing, acrobatics, pugil-sticks, all that kind of stuff. It’s the kind of thing that probably sounded pretty cool, but in actual practice it was just two guys wearing a lot of padding hopping around between trampolines whacking at each other with sticks. It was pretty incomprehensible and random, and they quickly dropped it.

EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Basic” (Episode 17)

Noah beats Rex at everything. After several Providence grunts make fun of Rex for being a wimp and a softie, the two of them decide to take Providence basic training. It’s pretty intense, unreasonably dangerous, and occasionally frightening. And, again, Noah is better at it than Rex.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “Shadows of Youth” (Episode 8)

I have this theory that the number of reads on a particular review tends to show the relative popularity of the show in the real world. Well, duh, right? No: it doesn’t work for shows like “Lost” or whatever, where there’s eleventy-jillion sites covering ‘em, so the numbers on those tend to be rather soft. There are a number of shows we cover, however, that I’ve *never* seen anyone else review on another website. Pretty much the whole CN Friday night lineup falls into that category. Ben 10’s last episode got more than three times as many reads as did last week’s episode of this show.
