EPISODE REVIEW: Symbionic Titan: “Elephant Logic” (Season 1, Episode 3)

I have nothing bad to say about tonight’s episode, though I thought I was going to at first. It plumbs the already well-blazed trail of the “Very Important Lesson About Life” cartoons that were so popular in the ‘80s. You know what I mean: Liono learns a very important lesson about trust, Optomus Prime learns a very important lesson about the need for Taxation WITH Representation; Lowlight (From GI Joe) learns a very important lesson about how his dad forcing him to kill all those rats probably wasn’t a good thing*.

EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Rabble” (Season 1, Episode 12)

You ever hit that stage where something you used to really like is starting to become tiresome, but you stick with it not out of loyalty or tradition or even hope, but simply because you don’t really think you have any alternative? I remember that when I saw the original Galactica for the first time, and was already done with Star Wars. I remember that with Babylon 5, when Trek had long since ceased to interest me.

PLAY BY PLAY

Zeus appears to a random assortment of heroes, villains, and super-scientists around the world kidnapping them. He doesn’t kidnap Rusty, however, and the man just gets sadder and sadder and more pathetic as the crisis rolls on. Finally, to cheer him up, Sgt. Hatred and the boys decide to kidnap him themselves, blindfold him, and torture him some, just to make him feel like he’s still relevant. This gets him to talking about his life, and his surprising feelings for his boys, and his general guilt over the existence he’s consigned them to.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-bionic Titans: “Neighbors in Disguise” (Season 1, episode 2)

It’s a week after the last episode - both in the real world and in TV land - and our heroes have been ouse hunting. They eventually find one in the suburbs with Octus posing as the dad. Barb, and annoying divorcee comes over and immediately starts hitting on Octus. The Princess, meanwhile, decides to go to “The Mall” on Barb’s urging (“It’s a place where we women can simply be!”) and loves it. Corporal Lance (Get it? Get it?) gets annoyed that she left without his protection, and we get a stunning two-minute chase sequence where he free-runs until he can jump into the bus.

People all over the world are getting “Presents” from someone that turn them into Evos briefly. Providence quickly realizes this is the work of a missing scientist name “Rylander” (Voiced by Brent Spiner) who’s suspected of being involved in the original Nanite event.

Holiday finds some rare plant residue in the presents, and tracks it to a region in South America, so Rex, Six, and her head on down. White Night informs Captain Kalen - the guy who was going to nuke Manhattan a few episodes back - to clean up the mess if Six’s team can’t contain it. Nukes ahoy!

EPISODE REVIEWS: Generator Rex: “Breach” (Season 1, Episode 8)

Another pretty solid episode.

Rex awakes in a creepy abandoned town, Greenville, Ohio, which disappeared several years before. He’s in a school with lots of deformed toys, and the town itself is no better, with detritus stacked everywhere, and levitating in the mist.

Meanwhile, Dr. Holiday has Breach in custody, strapped down, and is firing probes into her to try to figure out where Rex is. Whenever one gets close, it disappears, and ends up somewhere on earth. One gets through to Rex, but is promptly ejected again, without them being able to figure out where it is.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “Fused” (Season 1, Episode 8)

Wow. Did you know that Wiki says the first season of this show will be 32 episodes? That’s just got to be crazy talk, don’t you think? I mean, that can’t possibly be true. Most animated series run 13 episodes to a season on CN.
