As IO9 and Variety and others are already reporting, Universal Studios has announced that they will be rebooting Battlestar Galactica FOR A THIRD TIME. Taking a page from the JJ Abrams/Paramount playbook, BSG will be become a big screen franchise that will share a premise and character - but not continuity or actors - with the previous versions.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Out-of-work Cylon

Now that Veteran's Day is safely past, I can post this one. It's not technically a fan film, as it was created as an on-air advertisement for when the Space Channel started airing the old BSG series, but it's got a delightfully quirky style to it.

Maybe this is what happened to Gary the Centurion after Neil canned his shiny metal @ss...

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Galactica: The Saga Continues

This is just a trailer for a completely-animated CGI fanfilm series, but it's the one The Promised Land was a setup for. As crappy as Promised Land was, this genuinely looks pretty awesome. It appears to take a *LOT* of cues from the abandoned Singer/DeSanto revival attempt from a decade ago.  Don't see many humans in it, but that may not entirely be a drawback...

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Battlestar Galactica, The Promised Land

"Battlestar Galactica:The Promised Land" is a fan film with an odd agenda. Someone cobbled together a semi-coherent story composed *mostly* of G-80 footage, plus a lot of stuff grabbed from a half-dozen different movies and TV shows. It's not very good, honestly, but playing 'spot the clip' is interesting.

Roughly the same time "Caprica" was cancelled - actually slightly before, I think - Syfy announced they were working on yet another Battlestar Galactica spinoff, this one set in between the gap between the two series. "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome" was the title. For two years, this has been eagerly anticipated by the (rapidly diminishing) throngs of fanatics.
