REMEDIAL SF 101: Planet of the Vampires

Before there were zombies, vampires were the living dead of choice.  In this atmospherically-shot but dreadfully scripted 1965 sci-fi thriller, the crews of two space ships sent to investigate a distress beacon coming from an alien planet encounter more than they bargained for when invisible entities force them to fight and kill each other, then take over the dead bodies in an attempt to escape from their dying planet.

REMEDIAL SF 101: Lilo & Stitch

Just to clarify--if it's got space aliens in it, it's science fiction.

Which brings us to Lilo & Stitch.

What, you don't think so? "It's a Disney movie!" you protest. Well, try this on for fit, Thomas:

A genetically-engineered space alien designed to be an unstoppable force of destruction escapes its prison and steals a rocketship, crash-landing on Earth, where it is befriended in spite of itself by a lonely little girl who thinks it's a dog. Her patience and faith in him change him from a rotten little monster into a heroic figure as he saves the girl from the aliens who had been sent to recapture him.

Sure sounds like science fiction to me. And as an added bonus, there's hula.

REMEDIAL SF 101: It Came From Outer Space

In 1953, with American ideals under assault from the godless Communists, you really couldn't trust anybody to be who or what they seemed--not even people you've known for years, people you work with, people you respect...not even your girlfriend.

Especially when a space ship full of shape-shifting aliens crash-lands in the desert outside your town...

REMEDIAL SF 101: Sayanora, Jupiter

I'm not going to be able to give a coherent play-by-play of this movie, because I'm still not sure what exactly was going on. Suffice it to say that it's "live action manga." The DVD sleeve claims it was "Japan's answer to 2001:A Space Odyssey" and it does in fact rip off certain design elements from that film. It also rips off ideas from Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and some bad porno movies.
