SATURDAY B-MOVIE CRAPFEST: “The Unknown World” (1951)

As with all good-hearted people who came of age in the 70s or early 80s before cable was ubiquitous, my Saturday afternoons were solidly anchored to my local Monster Chiller Horror Theater show. Every week some semi-comedic host would tell bad jokes or engage in sub-stooges-level sketch comedy while framing a particularly crappy horror or SF movie. I drifted away from this in the 80s when I discovered that having long hair and a guitar meant that women would let me touch them, but as soon as I was out of college I discovered MST3K and once again my life was back on its normal course.

Ah, bugger!

I've just realized that Dollhouse (Fox, Friday, 9PM) and Stargate Universe (Syfy, Friday, 9PM) have something in common. In deference to Trekies who might be reading this, I'll simply say "They're both on at the same time." (Trekies are notoriously bad at math)

It’s day five of Science Fiction Hell Week, and after a hiatus of seven weeks, Iron Man returns with relatively little fanfare, making me wonder how it’s doing in the ratings. Sure they signed on for two seasons up front, but is it pulling in the viewers they want? Is it a successful show? Do they still believe in it? Are they willing to support it, or are they just burning off the episodes prior to ditching it.

Who knows. I strongly suspect the latter, but I honestly have no information about it.

OPINION: What’s the Best Science Fiction Show?

Republibot 3.0's picture

So this week I’ve gotten to wondering how the various Science Fiction television series of the last five decades or so stack up. I don’t mean “What’s your favorite SF show,” I’m thinking more along the lines of “Taken objectively, which series are better or worse than other series?” Interestingly, most people I’ve already asked this question to have answered “Star Trek” without hesitation. When I’ve asked them for a bit more information, however, an interesting Venn Diagram pattern appears:
