MOVIE REVIEW: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Wil Avitt's picture

I'm a fan of the Apes franchise. The 1968 original is a science fiction masterpiece that actually manages to surpass the source material (but with such a deadly dull novel and a screenplay written by Rod Serling, this isn't hard). I liked the second and fifth movies (Beneath the Planet and Battle for the Planet), I loved the Apes TV series and I loved immensely the Tim Burton version (not a popular view, but it's mine). The third movie in the bunch (Escape from the Planet) is pretty boring and the fourth movie (Conquest of the Planet) was better, but still not quite Planet of the Apes. Rise of the Planet is basically a remake of the two movies that weren't that great to begin with.

MOVIE REVIEW: Captain America: The First Avenger

Wil Avitt's picture

Captain America: The First Avenger tells the story of Steve Rogers, a young guy who wants nothing more than to serve his country by fighting in World War II. The only problem is he's been classified 4F (unfit for military service). Steve's best friend, James "Bucky" Barnes, is a sergeant in the US Army and although he feels for his friend, he knows he wouldn't last long in battle with his frail frame. Bucky tries to talk Steve into giving up on the Army, but can't help but support him every time he tries to enlist (using different aliases in different recruiting offices). It is during one of these conversations that Steve's determination is noticed by a German scientist who is looking for candidates for his super soldier program.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the lateness of this review. I really tried to get to it in the theaters, but I had just gotten the job and it just didn't get got. In the future, if I miss a movie during its theatrical run I will get it on dvd, but I'm gonna try really hard not to do that.

MOVIE REVIEW: Green Lantern

Wil Avitt's picture

Green Lantern is amazing. That's it, that's my entire review. Green Lantern is amazing, great and good even. It's probably the superhero movie closest to the comic book counterpart ever made. Go see it. Right now. Turn off your computer, go see the movie, then come back. I'll wait.
