The amazing thing, for me, is that Lost always manages to hit the ground running. On the face of it, the show would seem to have a lot of strikes against it - massive cast and plot erosion, an incomprehensible storyline, deliberately fractured storytelling, a sprawling cast that changes at a whim, shrinking season episode orders, not to mention the fact that after four years, we still don't really know what the heck is going on.
Fan Films have become a huge cottage industry in the past few years. With hundreds produced in the US and abroad, the quality ranges from cinematic on down to embarrassing, and the writing runs the gamut from hokey-jokey to breathtaking. The rising tide of these, and the emergence of venues like “Youtube,” have produced a flood of amateur production that quickly evolved from illegal copyright-infringing pastiches to semi-officially tolerated large-budget productions cranking out series of episodes.
This isn't even remotely Science Fiction, but it is pretty amazing: This is footage of the plane ditching in the river in Manhattan just the other day.
The plane hits the water just about 2:00 in to the clip, but the amazing completely remarkable and heroic part is that a ferryboat gets on the scene in three minutes!
