Aeon Flux – Movie Review

Republibot 1.0's picture

Aeon Flux is a bit of a conundrum to review as far as a movie goes. It is a big screen adaptation of an all flash over substance cartoon in which a scantily clad female assassin jumped through body contorting physical stunts in the pursuit of her quarry only to die at the end of each episode. And, oh yeah, each installment only lasted 2 minutes. And it was made for MTV – Music Television. You know, the place where intellectual depth is prized above all else, unless, of course there is the option of shaking your booty or there is a spring break fashion show or pretty much anything else sparkly that would catch the eye of an average attention deficit 15 year old.

Pearl Harbor Review and Redux

Republibot 1.0's picture

Directed by wunderkind director Michael Bay (Armageddon), from a screenplay by Randall Wallace (Braveheart), Pearl Harbor is three hours of soft focus, earth tones and high octane CGI. It is loosely based on the true story of a big battle and the lives of some little people. Sometime in the 1900's, which would be in the 20th century (I understand the math in that equation, but I still find it strange), there was a big war. This big war happened after an earlier big war, but before two smaller more politically incorrect wars (this of course does not include countless other wars that get little to no marketing attention from Hollywood).

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith – Movie Review (**1/2)

Republibot 1.0's picture

Before I begin my review, in the interest of full disclosure, I feel it important to say that even though I am of that generation that grew up with the original Star Wars movies, they were never formational films for me. Actually, Seven Blows of the Dragon was a much more important film in my youth than all three original Star Wars films put together. Granted, I have gone to every movie opening day (with the exception of Episode IV – A New Hope), but that has been more to maintain whatever geek cred I may or may not have had at the time of the various releases than any fanatical need to be the first in line.

War of the Worlds - Movie Review (**)

Republibot 1.0's picture

(I guess while I am on this minor Steven Spielberg rant - here is my review of his War of the Worlds from '05.)

War of the Worlds is a movie with a little black button smack dab in the middle of it. Oh, it’s not a literal or real button or anything like that. It is a figurative button. And even figuratively it isn’t a terribly unique button. Actually, it is a rather drab figurative button and has that dull and slightly scratched look that comes from regular figurative use. It is not a button that you would think an acclaimed director such as Steven Spielberg would ever use, however, there it is.

The Spielberg, AI and I

Republibot 1.0's picture

Right or wrong, I haven't paid or gone out of my way to see a Steven Spielberg movie since "Jurassic Park". And that was a rather disappointing experience in itself (and this is without even getting into what he did to the sequel). I bring this up mainly because of "AI". I am a bit conflicted on whether or not I want to go see it.
