RIP Tony Scott

Tony Scott 68 jumped from a bridge yesterday authorities said. The contents of a note found in is office have not been revealed.

Best known for the movie Top Gun he has genre credits with The Hunger 1983 and Déjà vu 2006. The Hunger was one of the first modern urban vampire fantasy films.

Our prayers go out to his family.

Harry Harrison dead at 87

Harry Harrison 87 died today in Britain, no details are available. Harrison best known for his Stainless Steel Rat series and the novel Make Room, Make Room which became the film Soylent Green has been a prolific author of science fiction since the 50’s.

ORIGINAL FICTION: "Set Your Controls for the Heart of the Sun" by Richard Anderson

Mikhail Petrov sat in the command module of the Sundiver as it plunged toward the surface of the Sun. He looked at the readouts and fought the urge to do something - a slight adjustment here or there - but the automatic controls were working at one hundred percent efficiency. He now realized why so many back on Earth believed this to be an insane mission: flying into the center of the Sun to make a time-space jump to a new star system seem even incredible to him now that he was seconds from the Sun’s surface.

The Politics of Alien Invasion

When science fiction wants to be taken seriously its practitioners talk about how sci fi is metaphor for what ever the writer is trying to portray to the reader or watcher in the case of TV. Aliens are minority groups; zombies are chaos or death, etc. The same is true for the alien invasion story since its first famous rendering in H.G. Wells’s ‘War of the Worlds’ to the current ‘V’ TV series this has been true.
