Old movie remakes often just make me ill - A rant in 775 words.

I was recently thinking about how an inordinate number of movies seem to be rehashes of old stuff. All sorts of stuff has been reimagined and rereleased – Tron, Judge Dredd, Red Dawn, Carrie, The Karate Kid, Conan the Barbarian, Clash of the Titans, and a host of others have made a run at theaters. As I write this…RoboCop is up for a do over and a few other 80s remakes are in theaters now.

What I'd like to see as the next big rage in 'monsters'

We’ve all watched the long (LONG) run that Vampires had as a fiction device. Vampires have had a run from Lumley’s foes of the Necroscope to Rice’s pretty, Interview vampires to Meyer’s sparkly Twilight vampires and everything else sandwiched between Stoker’s Dracula and The Vampire Academy. He wouldn’t have known it when he died in 1937, but Howard Phillips (H.P.) Lovecraft is undoubtedly one of the major influences on what we consider modern science fiction. When he broke onto the writing scene – he did it in Weird Tales magazine in October 1923 with a short, modern horror-fantasy story he titled ‘Dagon’, but he would later pen a number of tales that set into motion many of the darker visions we have in Science Fiction today.

The future is already here. It's just unevenly distributed.

One of the things that I think is really missing around here is game reviews and game discussion. A big part of ‘our’ culture is games. Board games, card games, word games, mind games… Love of games seems to go hand in hand with having a few extra brain cells to rub together, so I’m going to make a play for the wire here and assume that this crowd likes them too. Every now and again I’ll drop a review of a game into the rotation of updates that I do to see if there is enough interest to make it an ongoing topic.
