CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION BOOK REVIEW: “Erewhon Revisited” by Samuel Butler (1901)
Submitted by Republibot 3.0 on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 08:00I read Erewhon out of curiosity some years ago, as I have a soft spot for travelogues of nonexistent lands. They’re just fun, particularly the ones like Gulliver’s Travels and Utopia, that are social satire. I found mention of “Erewhon” (A lazy anagram for “Nowhere”) in the “Dictionary of Imaginary Places” and read it a few years back. I found it tedious and dull, for the most part, a particularly dry book written primarily to satirize the theory of evolution, which he disagreed with.

AWAY GAME: Republibot 3.0 Article Featured On Larry Niven Org
Submitted by Republibot 3.0 on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 07:26The fine people over at the "Known Space: The Future Worlds of Larry Niven" website have been reposting our book reviews of Niven's work for some time now, and we've been posting some of their film reviews which don't really fit in to the scheme of their site for almost as long (You can see 'em here: http://www.republibot.com/category/tags/bad-movie )
Recently they asked us to generate a little original content that would be exclusive to their site, and since Niven is pretty much unabashedly my favorite living SF writer I was only too happy to oblige.

BREAKING NEWS: "Dollhouse" is safe for at least half a season.
Submitted by Republibot 3.0 on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 12:31Fox ordered 13 episodes of "Dollhouse" up front. This is a fairly standard half-season order, and if the show is successful they'd generally pick up the "Back 9" to bring the season up to a standard 22 episodes. Despite this, however, Fox has been known to screw with shows before - "Firefly" for instance filmed 13 episodes, but only 10 were on the air. It's not uncommon for a show to be performing so badly that the network ditches it before it bleeds any more ratings from the time slot.

Submitted by Republibot 3.0 on Sat, 03/28/2009 - 21:03The series - and possibly the season - enters its endgame phase. Team Connor abandon their very nice rental home and head for a new safehouse location. Sarah splits them up in to two groups - her and John, and Reese and Cameron, neither of whom she trusts anymore.
Meanwhile, John Henry goes all bat-guano and starts hurting Savannah, the daughter of Shirley Manson from Garbage. One of the techs is on hand to shut him down, though.

EPISODE REVIEWS: Ben 10: Alien Force Series Finale
Submitted by Republibot 3.0 on Fri, 03/27/2009 - 22:18Ben 10: Alien Force is the second TV show in the “Ben Ten” franchise. The original series ran for five production cycles, or about 3 years, and “Alien Force” is set five years later. Whereas the original show was an open-ended series of more-or-less standalone adventures, this one was conceived of as a two-season arc series. It ended tonight.
